It's Manichean dualism, stupid!

Politics and economics, the two are inseparable, arent they? Well, not so sure: the economy is a basket case and yet the failed incumbent of 13 years is still in the race. The main parties have 'launched' their manifestos, a word implying clarity, force and news - not much of them to be seen in the Westminster revelations.

And the polls are wavering, waxing briefly, waning all too soon, exhausted but wily Brownies closing the gap only to be left by the next surge from the fresh young, inexperienced Cameroons.

Plus ca change they cry, but all too soon it is revealed as toujours la meme chose.

Voters are not indifferent to the choices, they simply a) dont believe what they are told; and b) mistrust the politicians' own motives. We may yet find a (relatively) high turn-out on May 6th, deviant local factors from the national 'opinion poll' and a hung parliament to boot. If true to type, they'll choose to hang together or, assuredly, they will hang separately.
